Most people associate geography with understanding where things are and what they are like. The term “geography” usually refers to an area’s topography—its relief and drainage patterns, predominant vegetation, as well as climate and weather patterns—along with human responses to that environment, such as agricultural, industrial, and other land uses, as well as settlement and urbanisation patterns.

Human geography, physical geography, and technical geography are the three major subfields of geography as a subject.
